There’s a picture book I use to read to my sons when they were young called “Winter Barn” by Dorothy Ripley. My husband still quotes the last line, knowing the value of a roof of snow, and my 17-yr. old son still keeps this book on his bedroom shelf.

It starts like this…..

A misty moon was circled red and heavy clouds hung overhead. “I smell snow!” the Farmer said. In winter the world goes to sleep early.

The Farmer rose at the crack of dawn, stared through the window, and said with a yawn, “Snow!” He blew his nose and pulled on his clothes and said, “Let her come! Let her blow! The barn keeps warm with a roof of snow!”
